DESCRIPTION: APW - Ball Hampden, "Ball's Standard High Grade" marked mvt, 15J, 18S, coin silver OF original Dueber Newport case with nickel cuvette, white enamel SS dial with Moorhouse-style decorative elements, SW-LS, nickel damascene, s#410229. A rare watch; Ball Hampden movements were made with signatures including "Ball's Standard Superior Grade," "Ball's Standard High Grade," and simply "Ball's Standard" and among these the "Ball's Standard High Grade" and "Ball's Standard" seem to be notably rarer than the "Ball's Standard Superior Grade." We suspect this is the first Ball Hampden "High Grade" we have handled as a search of our firm's archives revealed no other examples.
CONDITION: Mvt: Ticking sluggishly after a twist to start, overhaul recommended, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, some short scratches and peck marks near case screw areas, typical scattered fine to micro-fine scratches elsewhere; dial with hl at 7, some scattered edge and perimeter flakes; excellent hands; case shows medium wear, dark overall patina, dents to central portion of rear; tight bow, crown shows ample wear with ridge break and has lost a portion of its jacket (outer layer); good glass crystal.
ESTIMATE: $1500 - $3000
